NEW DELHI: Vaishnavi Sharma made history by becoming the first Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in the U19 Women’s World Cup. She achieved the remarkable feat during India’s clash against Malaysia at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

India won the toss and opted to field, leaving Malaysia reeling at 30/6 when Vaishnavi came in to bowl her fourth over, having already claimed two wickets. She first trapped Nur Ain Binti Roslan (3) plumb in front of the wicket on the second ball of her over. On the very next delivery, Vaishnavi dismissed Nur Isma Dania LBW. Then, on the following ball, she clean bowled Siti Nazwah, completing her historic hat-trick and becoming the first Indian to do so in the U19 Women’s World Cup.
Vaishnavi’s sensational spell of 4-1-5-5 helped India bowl out Malaysia for just 31 runs in 14.3 overs. The Indian openers, Gongadi Trisha and G Kamalini, chased down the meager target in just 2.5 overs, winning by a dominant 10-wicket margin and securing the top spot in Group A.
Vaishnavi Sharma was named Player of the Match for her exceptional performance.
